A Summer Reading Adventure for Children of Mobile Farmworkers
Offered by the Institute for the Development of Educational Advancement (IDEA)
IDEA's Summer Reading Program is designed especially for children of mobile farmworkers in grades K–8. We know these students move around — so our program is 100% virtual, flexible, and built around the excitement of reading, creating, and connecting with other kids just like them. Reach out if you want to learn how to offer this program to your students with your staff email information@ideaadvancement.org.
From virtual meetups to art contests, every week is packed with something awesome. Here's what students can look forward to:
Students meet live online every week with teachers, fellow readers, and special guests. Sessions are interactive, fun, and designed to keep every reader engaged all summer long.
Instructors guide students through reading skills, comprehension strategies, and vocabulary building — all tailored to each student's level in a fun, pressure-free environment.
Students compete in exciting book challenges — from reading the most pages to writing the best book review. Prizes and recognition for every grade level!
Students don't just read books — they write them! Using kid-friendly digital tools, each student creates and publishes their very own illustrated online book to share with family and friends.
Every week features a themed art challenge. Students submit drawings and illustrations inspired by what they've read. The best artwork is displayed in our virtual gallery and wins prizes!
The program runs throughout Summer 2026. We provide Professional Development to Staff interested in conducting this program.

MEP children face unique barriers to summer learning. This program removes every single one of them.
Research shows students lose 2–3 months of learning each summer. Our program keeps reading skills sharp and growing all season long.
Students can participate from any state, any city, any farm — the program follows them wherever the harvest takes their family.
Creating real books and winning art contests gives students a sense of pride and ownership in their learning journey.
Students connect with peers who share their experience, building friendships and a community that lasts beyond the summer.
